Nagual - And Once The Storm Is Over... (Orzorock Music, 2024)
Hard rock has been a musical genre that has given so much to music enthusiasts since the late '60s with fantastic bands like Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, and many others. Bringing them back to memory are the musicians from Piacenza, Nagual, active since 2006 and with five albums under their belt, including the new "And Once The Storm Is Over...".
Beloved classic rock meets the grunge of the '90s, and the recipe, dear rockers, is more than successful. Luca Sabia (vocals and guitar), Davide Belfiglio (guitar), Giulio Armanetti (bass), Claudio Bianchi (drums), G. Fabrizio Defacqz (keyboards and vocals), and Sara Battisteri (vocals) deliver a mature work with very well-crafted arrangements and a highly varied sound that at times even touches on prog.
The title, very interestingly, is inspired by a novel by the Japanese author Haruki Murakami and represents an invitation to recognize our ability to navigate life's turbulence, while reminding us that we ultimately emerge transformed.
The eight tracks that make up the album offer a constant flow of energy, mixing hard rock and classic rock with formidable power ("Going Nowhere," "Life Kills You," and "Wildfire"), but also striking ballads like "Fading Away" or the epic "Where Memories Are Blind."
The great expressive force combined with the remarkable voices of Sabia and Battisteri is a guarantee of success, as is the great work of the guitars and the fundamental backdrop of the keyboards. What can we say about the technical section other than it works great and marks all the moods of the various songs.
Also noteworthy is the presence of some guests who contribute to the success of the work, such as Marco Cusenza additional guitar on "Too For Gone," Alessandro Bertozzi Sax on "Wildfire."
The sounds, through the excellent recording by Alberto Callegari at Elfo Studio, allow listeners to appreciate every nuance of the work. The attached booklet is comprehensive and offers the presence of the lyrics along with beautiful images with graphics curated by Luca Sabia.
In conclusion, if you loved the classic rock of the '70s and didn't ignore the grunge of the '90s, you can't miss this album.
