The Greatests Jazz Tunes Recorded In 1957 & 1958 (Remastered)

Versione in inglese

"Blue Train" by John Coltrane, featured in this selection I would like to present, was recorded by the great saxophonist in 1957 at Van Gelder Studio in Hackensack, New Jersey, and included in the eponymous album released in 1958 by the Blue Note label. The album was recorded during Coltrane's time at the Five Spot club as a member of Thelonious Monk's quartet. The accompanying musicians include Lee Morgan on trumpet, Curtis Fuller on trombone, Kenny Drew on piano, Paul Chambers on bass, and Philly Joe Jones on drums.

"Misterioso" was the first 12-bar blues written by Thelonius Monk and was first recorded on July 2, 1948, during the Wizard Of the Vibes sessions with vibraphonist Milt Jackson. The piece was later revisited by Monk for the live album "Misterioso" in 1958, featuring not only the great pianist but also Ahmed Abdul-Malik on bass, Johnny Griffin on tenor sax, and Roy Haynes on drums.

Chico Hamilton was an American jazz drummer and bandleader who lent his drumming skills to artists such as Lester Young, Gerry Mulligan, Count Basie, and Lena Horne, to name a few. "Happy Talk," a track included in this selection and written by Oscar Hammerstein II and Richard Rodgers, was released on the album "South Pacific In Hi-Fi" by the Chico Hamilton Quintet. The quintet consisted of Chico Hamilton on drums, Paul Horn on alto sax and flute, Hal Gaylor on bass, Fred Katz on cello, and John Pisano on guitar.

I recommend listening to this selection where you will find tracks from other great jazz artists of that period.
