Moonrise – No Rewind (Island Music Studio, 2026)
Pubblicato nell'aprile 2026, a sette anni di distanza da Travel Within (2019), No Rewind riprende il discorso musicale sviluppato nei precedenti album, da The Lights Of A Distant Bay (2008) a Soul's Inner Pendulum (2009) e Stopover – Life (2012).
Staszek è invece presente in Shadows In The Dark, Single Game, Cheaters e Friends Of Blood.

Kamil Konieczniak (Moonrise)
Ascoltando No Rewind, ritrovo quel progressive rock

English version
Moonrise – No Rewind (Island Music Studio, 2026)
When music can still move us
Some comebacks take a long time to arrive, yet still manage to bring pleasant surprises. For those who have followed Moonrise, No Rewind marks a new chapter in the musical journey of Kamil Konieczniak, a Polish multi-instrumentalist who has gradually built a distinctive identity in progressive rock through this project. His work is part of a wider scene that also includes bands such as Millenium, closely associated with the Polish prog tradition.
Released in April 2026, seven years after Travel Within (2019), No Rewind continues the musical direction established on previous albums, from The Lights Of A Distant Bay (2008) to Soul's Inner Pendulum (2009) and Stopover – Life (2012). Here we find melodic progressive rock, with keyboards and guitars shaping intricate arrangements that alternate energetic passages with more intimate and reflective moments. The connection with the past is clear, but there are new elements too, beginning with the presence of two vocalists. Ania Batko, making her debut with Moonrise on this album, joins Marcin Staszek, bringing different colours and expressive qualities to the compositions. This addition enriches the project's sound without losing sight of the qualities that have defined its musical journey.
The most noticeable change is the interplay between Ania Batko and Marcin Staszek. Batko, already known for her work with Hipgnosis, Albion and tRKproject, appears on a Moonrise album for the first time, singing on Two Roads, When We Played By Heart and All About You. Staszek, meanwhile, takes the microphone on Shadows In The Dark, Single Game, Cheaters and Friends Of Blood. The two singers have distinct styles, yet both fit naturally into the compositions, giving the album an appealing vocal variety.
Kamil Konieczniak is responsible for the compositions, production and recording, and also plays keyboards, guitars, bass and drums. His work lies at the heart of Moonrise's identity. Keyboards play a major role, while the guitars also have room for solos and melodic passages. On Friends Of Blood, guest guitarist Marcin Kruczek contributes his own solo work. Konieczniak also handles the mixing and mastering, overseeing the entire production process. Based on the available information, the result aims for a clear, carefully crafted sound that brings out the different elements of the arrangements.
The lyrics by Łukasz Gałęziowski, a former vocalist with both Moonrise and Millenium, also help define the album's character. The themes range from contemporary anxieties and the difficulty of distinguishing truth from manipulation to more personal matters involving memory, loss and the longing to reclaim things that now belong to the past. The title No Rewind evokes the impossibility of going back and changing the course of events. Completing the project is the artwork by Eryk Konieczniak, Kamil's son, featuring symbolic imagery designed to engage with both the music and the lyrical themes.
Two Roads opens the album with keyboards and guitars that immediately establish Moonrise's melodic character. Ania Batko brings a fresh dimension to the sound, with an elegant vocal performance that fits naturally into the arrangement. It's an inviting opening that draws us into Kamil Konieczniak's musical world and introduces an album in which the vocals play an important role.
With Shadows In The Dark, Moonrise have more room to develop their ideas, surrounding Marcin Staszek's vocals with carefully crafted, nuanced arrangements. The keyboards play a central role in shaping the track's character, while the guitars give substance to the rhythm and introduce further melodic ideas. Over its nine-plus minutes, the song moves between more forceful passages and quieter moments, with the piano helping to keep the journey varied and engaging.
Single Game continues along the same path, confirming the project's ability to combine memorable melodies with intricate arrangements. Staszek's voice is one of the track's central elements, conveying a strong sense of involvement without sacrificing its melodic appeal. Guitars and keyboards take turns shaping the musical progression, keeping the listener engaged and showing how progressive rock can look ahead without losing sight of the value of a good song.
With Cheaters, the mood changes. The track takes a more forceful direction, with electronic keyboards to the fore, an energetic rhythm section and guitars with a sharper edge. Staszek once again delivers a convincing vocal performance, particularly in the more intense passages. The result is a compact composition in which instrumental impact goes hand in hand with a clearly defined melody.
When We Played By Heart brings Ania Batko back to the forefront. Her voice adds delicacy and a distinctive sensitivity to the musical narrative. The track's melancholic mood is reflected in an arrangement that supports her performance without weighing it down. A sense of nostalgia fits naturally with the album's themes of memories and situations that time has made impossible to recover. The music gradually builds in intensity while retaining its intimate character.
Silent Rooms shifts the atmosphere, with the piano leading a brief instrumental interlude. At just over three minutes, its restrained arrangement sets it apart from the album's more elaborate compositions. There are no elaborate developments or unnecessary additions: the piano, accompanied by a few subtle keyboard touches in the background, is enough to give this passage its own character. It offers a moment of calm before the album resumes its course.
Friends Of Blood brings the project's rock side back into focus, featuring guest guitarist Marcin Kruczek. His solo adds character to the composition and interacts with the instrumental foundation built by Konieczniak. Staszek delivers the vocals with conviction, while the keyboards complete an arrangement in which the different elements find a good balance. The guest guitar is one of the most distinctive features of the album's second half.
The journey concludes with All About You, the album's longest composition, running for more than ten minutes. Ania Batko returns on vocals in a track that gives Konieczniak plenty of room to develop the instrumental passages, alternating between guitars and keyboards. The extended running time allows the music to breathe and gradually expand, while the female vocals maintain a strong connection with the album's melodic side. It's a closing track that brings together several of the elements heard throughout the record, while offering a fuller picture of the Polish musician's approach to composition.
Listening to No Rewind, I find the kind of melodic progressive rock that continues to give me so much pleasure and has lost none of its appeal over the years. Kamil Konieczniak once again shows his ability to build carefully crafted compositions in which keyboards and guitars each have room to shine, while the arrival of Ania Batko alongside Marcin Staszek brings a fresh dimension to Moonrise's sound.
I'm glad to discover that, even after seven years of waiting, this project still has something to say. There's no need to overturn an established formula when it can be renewed thoughtfully while retaining its identity. That's the balance I find in this album, along with melodies that invite repeated listening.
For those who, like me, continue to love progressive rock that combines emotion, melody and thoughtful arrangements, No Rewind is an album worth giving time to and returning to more than once. I'm pleased to have discovered it on my own musical journey and to be able to share its story on the pages of Redapolis Music.
