Manas 3o – Empty Roads After The Rain (2026) – Contemporary Jazz

Manas 3o – Empty Roads After the Rain

Manas 3o – Empty Roads After the Rain (Wow Records, 2026)

Empty Roads After the Rain, nuova pubblicazione dei Manas 3o, appartiene proprio a questa categoria.

Giuseppe Cistola

Manas 3o

Manas 3o – Empty Roads After the Rain (Wow Records, 2026)

Jazz to be lived slowly, beyond the rain

Some albums ask to be heard without rushing, allowing their details to reveal themselves little by little. Empty Roads After the Rain, the latest release from Manas 3o, belongs to this category. Led by guitarist and composer Giuseppe Cistola, with Dario Germani on double bass and Federico Chiarofonte on drums, the trio delivers ten original compositions in which jazz becomes an open space shaped by dialogue, pauses, contrasts, and subtle changes.

Released by Wow Records in September 2026, the album is built around compositions by the three musicians. Cistola's guitar does not simply occupy the center of the music, but constantly interacts with double bass and drums, creating a balance in which each instrument contributes to the development of the music.

Listening to Empty Roads After the Rain immediately draws me into the world of Manas 3o. The ten compositions come together naturally, allowing room for pauses, changes of direction, and moments of greater intensity.

I recommend listening to this album without trying to figure out straight away where it is taking you. Let the compositions speak for themselves, without feeling the need to find an immediate explanation. Personally, it was through repeated listening that I began to notice details I had missed the first time around. So let the music guide you and see what it has to say to you.

What strikes me most is the way the three musicians play together. Their interaction feels natural and spontaneous, never forced, allowing the compositions to develop with a real sense of freedom. There is a genuine understanding between them that gives the album a strong identity and, at least for me, makes each new listen a chance to get a little deeper into it.

Giuseppe Cistola himself offers an insight into the way he experiences this work: “Empty Roads After The Rain gives me the feeling of entering a space I didn't know, yet somehow already belonged to me.” The guitarist describes an album that does not need to be understood immediately, but rather experienced through its sounds, pauses, and contrasts. With time, this way of listening can reveal new details, emotions, and unexpected memories.

These words help to clarify the approach taken by Manas 3o. Empty Roads After the Rain does not ask to be explained straight away, but to be listened to carefully, allowing the compositions and the interaction between the three musicians to gradually reveal the character of the album.

Giuseppe Cistola's musical background also helps to put this direction into perspective. A guitarist and composer with a solid jazz education, Cistola further developed his studies through courses organized in Perugia by the Berklee College of Music as part of Umbria Jazz. After receiving a scholarship and being selected as the best guitarist of the courses, he performed at Umbria Jazz Winter 2019 alongside the best students on the other instruments.

In 2020, he was a finalist in the Premio Urbani, and in 2023 he reached the final three of the Il Genio di Eddie Lang competition. That same year, he was selected for an artistic residency organized by St. Louis in Rome, bringing together musicians from across Europe. The week of rehearsals, led by Federica Michisanti, focused exclusively on building a repertoire of original compositions by the musicians involved. The project culminated in a concert at Casa del Jazz, followed by a series of performances abroad.

Cistola is also currently involved in the Al Capa European 4et, alongside Miel De Koninck on piano, Federica Michisanti on double bass, and Simon Pas on drums. It is another setting in which musical interaction and original compositions play an important role.

With Empty Roads After the Rain, Manas 3o bring this musical research into the intimate setting of a trio. Ten compositions in which the musicians develop a shared language without giving up their individual space. It is an album that never needs to rush, finding its strength in the freedom to pause, listen, and return to what has already been heard.

A record to approach with attention, allowing even the quieter moments and less obvious details to shape the listening experience. Because, like a road after the rain, this music can reveal something different each time you travel through it.
