10 Years non è solo un album: è un viaggio nel tempo, un racconto di dieci anni di musica vissuta fianco a fianco, di incontri, di sorrisi, di concerti che restano impressi come piccoli miracoli nella memoria. È l’energia di un gruppo che sembra non conoscere limiti, la complicità tra musicisti che si ascoltano e si sostengono, trasformando ogni nota in un gesto di condivisione.
Il Nico Gori Swing Tentet nasce con lo spirito della solidarietà, nel 2015, per sostenere L’Aquila con il progetto Il Jazz Italiano per L’Aquila, e fin da subito rivela la sua doppia anima: esplosiva e vibrante sul palco, raffinata ed elegante nelle sfumature, capace di conquistare l’orecchio e il cuore senza mai ricorrere ad artifici. Da allora, ogni concerto – dall’Umbria Jazz al Firenze Jazz Festival, dai festival più disparati all’intimità dell’Exwide di Pisa – diventa un piccolo rito, un momento in cui la musica respira e pulsa, creando un dialogo diretto e invisibile tra musicisti e pubblico.
Pubblicato da Encore Music, 10 Years !!! porta su disco questa avventura collettiva, trasformandola in memoria viva e condivisa.
Il lavoro si apre con Saint Louis Blues di W.C. Handy è quasi un manifesto: il clarinetto di Nico Gori prende per mano l’ascoltatore e lo conduce in un dialogo fitto e dinamico con la sezione fiati, tra swing, pathos e quella freschezza timbrica che evita ogni manierismo. Già qui si percepisce la cifra del gruppo: energia calibrata, cura dei dettagli e capacità di raccontare una storia senza parole.
Con L.O.V.E di Bert Kaempfert, Milt Gabler e Bert Kaempfert, l’album si tinge di leggerezza e ironia: l’arrangiamento alterna sezioni compatte a spazi più ariosi, mentre la voce di Michela Lombardi danza tra fraseggi jazzly e accenti retrò, come se stesse parlando direttamente con chi ascolta, con grazia e naturalezza.
Stardust di Hoagy Carmichael e Mitchell Parish è un piccolo miracolo di equilibrio: l’introduzione rarefatta sembra quasi un dialogo sussurrato tra strumenti, prima che il tema emerga con lirismo e delicatezza, sostenuto da un’orchestrazione perfetta tra romanticismo e swing.
E poi c’è 10 Years !!!, l’inedito firmato da Nico Gori che dà il titolo all’album: qui il tentetto mostra la sua vera personalità, tra scrittura brillante, interplay serrato e un tema che sembra tessere fili tra Duke Ellington e la scuola italiana, diventando un manifesto sonoro del gruppo, un momento in cui passato e presente si incontrano con naturalezza.
In Smile di Charlie Chaplin, la malinconia e la leggerezza si fondono senza sentimenti forzati, mentre in Smoke Gets In Your Eyes di Jerome Kern e Otto Harbach il gruppo esplora territori più orchestrali, costruendo tensione ed esplosioni di fiati che emozionano senza mai risultare ridondanti.
Blue Moon di Richard Rodgers e Lorenz Hart porta il sapore delle notti estive nei jazz club, con contrabbasso e fiati che disegnano arabeschi swing, mentre C’est Si Bon di Henri Betti e André Hornez gioca con charme e teatralità, trasformando il classico di Louis Armstrong in un piccolo cabaret parigino.
Take the «A» Train di Billy Strayhorn diventa un banco di prova per la vitalità e la precisione del gruppo: gli assoli di tromba, la sezione fiati, l’interplay tra i musicisti raccontano non solo un pezzo, ma l’anima stessa dello swing, quella capacità di muoversi insieme, di respirare all’unisono, di stupire senza ostentazione.
I Wish You Love di Charles Trenet è una ballad sospesa tra dolcezza e malinconia, con la voce che si muove tra carezze e sospiri, mentre Minority di Gigi Gryce chiude l’album con energia moderna e piglio sicuro, mostrando quanto il gruppo sappia muoversi con agilità tra tradizione e sperimentazione.
Ascoltare 10 Years !!! significa percorrere una storia fatta di passione, virtuosismo e poesia. Ogni brano racconta qualcosa di vivo, ogni assolo sembra avere il respiro di chi lo suona e di chi lo ascolta. A Journey of Ten Years, Between Elegance and Fire, in the Name of Swing
10 Years is more than just an album: it is a journey through time, a story of ten years of music shared side by side, of encounters, smiles, and concerts that remain etched in memory like small miracles. It captures the energy of a group that seems to know no limits, the complicity among musicians who listen to and support each other, turning every note into a gesture of sharing.
The Nico Gori Swing Tentet was born with a spirit of solidarity in 2015, to support L’Aquila through the project Il Jazz Italiano per L’Aquila, and from the very beginning it revealed its dual nature: explosive and vibrant on stage, refined and elegant in its subtleties, able to captivate both ear and heart without resorting to artifice. Since then, every concert – from Umbria Jazz to the Florence Jazz Festival, from various festivals to the intimate setting of Exwide in Pisa – has become a small ritual, a moment in which the music breathes and pulses, creating a direct and invisible dialogue between musicians and audience.
Released by Encore Music, 10 Years !!! captures this collective adventure on record, transforming it into a living and shared memory.
The album opens with Saint Louis Blues by W.C. Handy, almost a manifesto: Nico Gori’s clarinet takes the listener by the hand and leads them into a dense and dynamic dialogue with the horn section, between swing, pathos, and a timbral freshness that avoids any mannerism. Here already, the group’s signature is clear: calibrated energy, attention to detail, and the ability to tell a story without words.
With L.O.V.E by Bert Kaempfert and Milt Gabler, the album takes on lightness and irony: the arrangement alternates between compact sections and more airy spaces, while Michela Lombardi’s voice dances between jazzy phrases and retro inflections, as if speaking directly to the listener, with grace and naturalness.
Stardust by Hoagy Carmichael and Mitchell Parish is a small miracle of balance: the sparse introduction feels almost like a whispered conversation between instruments before the theme emerges with lyricism and delicacy, supported by an orchestration that perfectly balances romance and swing.
Then comes 10 Years!!!, the title track and original composition by Nico Gori: here, the tentet shows its true personality, with brilliant writing, tight interplay, and a theme that weaves threads between Duke Ellington and the Italian school, becoming a sonic manifesto of the group, a moment where past and present meet naturally.
In Smile by Charlie Chaplin, melancholy and lightness merge without forced sentiment, while in Smoke Gets In Your Eyes by Jerome Kern and Otto Harbach, the group explores more orchestral territories, building tension and horn explosions that excite without ever feeling redundant.
Blue Moon by Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart evokes the flavor of summer nights in jazz clubs, with bass and horns intertwining in swinging arabesques, while C’est Si Bon by Henri Betti and André Hornez plays with charm and theatricality, transforming Louis Armstrong’s classic into a small Parisian cabaret.
Take the «A» Train by Billy Strayhorn becomes a test of the group’s vitality and precision: trumpet solos, horn sections, and the interplay among musicians convey not just a piece, but the very soul of swing, that ability to move together, breathe as one, and astonish without ostentation.
