Un jazz che invita a fermarsi, ascoltare e restare umani
Dopo averci guidato con il singolo Lost Souls, Stay Human arriva ora sulle principali piattaforme digitali e in formato fisico con Abeat Records. È la quarta raccolta di inediti di Michele Perruggini, batterista e compositore barese, e ancora una volta dimostra la sua capacità di trasformare riflessioni profonde in musica viva, capace di coinvolgere chi ascolta e di lasciare spazio a pause, dettagli e sfumature che parlano direttamente all’anima.
A rendere il progetto ancora più ricco contribuiscono alcuni fra i musicisti più interessanti del panorama jazz italiano ed europeo: Roberto Olzer al pianoforte, Yuri Goloubev al contrabbasso, Riccardo Bertuzzi alla chitarra, Guido Bombardieri a sax soprano e clarinetto, Dario Tanghetti alle percussioni e Fausto Beccalossi alla fisarmonica in due brani.
Stay Human è un concept album che esplora il tema centrale del titolo: in un mondo dove la tecnologia e i social media rischiano di soffocare la dimensione umana, il disco è un invito, una sfida e un monito a mantenere il contatto con ciò che ci rende autentici. Ogni traccia è un piccolo racconto sonoro che intreccia dubbi esistenziali, riflessioni e suggestioni emotive, spesso con un approccio cinematografico nella costruzione dei paesaggi musicali.
L’album, il quarto di Michele Perruggini, si apre con Through the Darkest Stars, un invito a perdersi nell’infinito su un ritmo misurato. La batteria costruisce piccoli accenti che dialogano con il pianoforte di Olzer, creando uno spazio aperto e leggero. Il contrabbasso di Goloubev e la chitarra di Bertuzzi aggiungono linee sottili, mentre il clarinetto di Bombardieri ne sottolinea i dettagli e le percussioni di Tanghetti completano il tutto con tocchi discreti, senza appesantire la musica.
Lost Souls accompagna l’ascoltatore in un’atmosfera malinconica: il pianoforte disegna motivi delicati, il contrabbasso aggiunge frasi dolci e la chitarra risponde senza mai sovrastare. Il soprano di Bombardieri illumina la melodia, mentre la batteria usa tocchi leggeri, creando pause che fanno respirare la musica.
In Hypnosis, la fisarmonica di Beccalossi porta un colore caldo e corale. La batteria e la chitarra dialogano tra loro, mentre il pianoforte ripete motivi circolari che guidano l’insieme, con piccole deviazioni che catturano l’attenzione dell’ascoltatore.
Stay Human, il brano che dà il titolo all’album, è il cuore del progetto: pianoforte, contrabbasso, batteria, chitarra e soprano si intrecciano, traducendo in suono il tema centrale dell’album e mescolando ordine e immaginazione.
Black Waltz unisce il valzer tradizionale con ritmi più scuri e sincopati: pianoforte e contrabbasso scandiscono la danza, batteria e chitarra ne cambiano il passo e il soprano aggiunge una linea sinuosa, creando l’impressione di una sala da ballo reinventata in chiave moderna.
In Faces, la musica sembra giocare con se stessa: i suoni si intrecciano e si trasformano continuamente, come volti che cambiano espressione ma restano sempre riconoscibili. Shy Fingers è più intimo e raccolto: pianoforte e chitarra dialogano a distanza ravvicinata, la batteria e il contrabbasso sostengono la struttura, mentre il soprano passa leggero sopra il tessuto musicale e le percussioni incorniciano il tutto.
Lonely crea spazi ampi e silenziosi, con il clarinetto che aggiunge piccole sfumature narrative. Il pianoforte accompagna con note rarefatte, il contrabbasso sostiene senza fretta, e la batteria interviene con tocchi leggeri, lasciando respirare la musica e dando all’ascoltatore il tempo di entrare nell’atmosfera solitaria del brano.
Dreamland richiama la fisarmonica di Beccalossi in un paesaggio sospeso e delicato. Pianoforte, chitarra e contrabbasso si muovono insieme con armonie morbide, creando un equilibrio tra ripetizione e piccoli cambiamenti. La batteria interviene con tocchi leggeri e discreti, mentre ogni strumento si prende il suo spazio, dando all’ascoltatore la sensazione di fluttuare in un sogno musicale.
Lith ha un carattere asciutto e scarno, con suoni essenziali che emergono dal silenzio. Ogni nota sembra scelta con attenzione, e lo spazio tra i suoni diventa parte della musica. La chitarra suona linee pulite, il pianoforte muove note semplici, il contrabbasso si concentra su pochi elementi e il clarinetto interviene con brevi frasi. Insieme, gli strumenti costruiscono un paesaggio sonoro essenziale, intenso e sospeso, dove il poco diventa significativo.
Night concentra l’energia in dinamiche tranquille, tra note singole e tocchi leggeri, rendendo la notte ricca di dettagli da scoprire. Ogni suono sembra emergere lentamente dall’oscurità, invitando l’ascoltatore a prestare attenzione a sfumature e piccole armonie nascoste.
Infine, Ancient Song chiude il percorso richiamando tradizioni lontane: modi antichi al pianoforte, fraseggi evocativi della chitarra e il calore del clarinetto restituiscono un finale che unisce memoria, esplorazione e cura dell’ascolto.

After guiding us with the single Lost Souls, Stay Human is now available on major digital platforms and in physical format through Abeat Records. This is the fourth collection of original compositions by Michele Perruggini, a drummer and composer from Bari, once again demonstrating his ability to turn deep reflections into living music, capable of engaging the listener while leaving space for pauses, details, and nuances that speak directly to the soul.
The project is further enriched by some of the most interesting musicians in the Italian and European jazz scene: Roberto Olzer on piano, Yuri Goloubev on double bass, Riccardo Bertuzzi on guitar, Guido Bombardieri on soprano sax and clarinet, Dario Tanghetti on percussion, and Fausto Beccalossi on accordion in two tracks.
Stay Human is a concept album exploring the central theme suggested by its title: in a world where technology and social media risk suffocating the human dimension, the record is an invitation, a challenge, and a reminder to stay connected to what makes us authentic. Each track is a small sonic story weaving existential doubts, reflections, and emotional suggestions, often with a cinematic approach to building musical landscapes.
The album opens with Through the Darkest Stars, an invitation to get lost in infinity over a measured rhythm. The drums create subtle accents that interact with Olzer’s piano, crafting an open, airy space. Goloubev’s double bass and Bertuzzi’s guitar add delicate lines, Bombardieri’s clarinet highlights the details, and Tanghetti’s percussion completes the scene with discreet touches, never weighing down the music.
Lost Souls immerses the listener in a melancholic atmosphere: the piano sketches delicate motifs, the double bass adds gentle phrases, and the guitar responds without ever overpowering. Bombardieri’s soprano illuminates the melody, while the drums use light touches, creating pauses that let the music breathe.
In Hypnosis, Beccalossi’s accordion brings a warm, choral color. Drums and guitar converse with each other, while the piano repeats circular motifs guiding the ensemble, with small deviations that capture the listener’s attention.
The title track, Stay Human, is the heart of the project: piano, double bass, drums, guitar, and soprano intertwine, translating the album’s central theme into sound and blending order with imagination.
Black Waltz merges the traditional waltz with darker, syncopated rhythms: piano and double bass mark the dance, drums and guitar shift the pace, and the soprano adds a sinuous line, evoking the feeling of a ballroom reinvented in a modern key.
In Faces, the music seems to play with itself: sounds weave and transform continuously, like faces changing expression yet remaining recognizable. Shy Fingers is more intimate and close-knit: piano and guitar converse up close, drums and double bass support the structure, while the soprano lightly floats over the musical fabric and percussion frames the whole.
Lonely creates wide, quiet spaces, with the clarinet adding small narrative touches. The piano accompanies with sparse notes, the double bass supports steadily, and the drums provide light touches, allowing the music to breathe and giving the listener time to enter the piece’s solitary atmosphere.
Dreamland recalls Beccalossi’s accordion in a suspended, delicate landscape. Piano, guitar, and double bass move together with soft harmonies, creating a balance between repetition and subtle variations. The drums add light, discreet touches, while each instrument takes its space, giving the listener the sensation of floating in a musical dream.
Lith has a dry, bare character, with essential sounds emerging from silence. Every note seems carefully chosen, and the space between sounds becomes part of the music. The guitar plays clean lines, the piano moves in simple notes, the double bass focuses on a few elements, and the clarinet interjects with brief phrases. Together, the instruments build an essential, intense, and suspended soundscape where less becomes meaningful.
Night concentrates its energy in gentle dynamics, between single notes and light touches, making the night rich with details to discover. Each sound seems to emerge slowly from the darkness, inviting the listener to pay attention to subtle shades and hidden harmonies.
Finally, Ancient Song closes the journey by recalling distant traditions: ancient modes on the piano, evocative guitar phrases, and the warmth of the clarinet provide a conclusion that unites memory, exploration, and attentive listening. At the end of Stay Human, there is the sense of having traveled a path both inward and outward, where mind and heart, technique and feeling are intertwined. Each composition, written by Michele Perruggini, is a small breath that reminds us how precious it is to remain present and authentic in a world that often pushes toward indifference.
The album does more than invite listening: it asks us to feel, reflect, and rediscover our humanity, leaving us with the awareness that, despite everything, staying human is the greatest challenge and, at the same time, the truest gift we can cherish.
