Psoas – Satori (Aut Records, 2026)
Un trio che scava nel suono come gesto di consapevolezza
C’è un momento, all’inizio di Satori, in cui il suono sembra ancora cercare il proprio respiro. È da lì che gli Psoas partono: un jazz contemporaneo aperto, attraversato da suggestioni british-rock, che non impone una direzione ma la lascia emergere lentamente, nel tempo dell’ascolto.
Pubblicato il 15 aprile 2026 per Aut Records, il disco non si presenta come una dichiarazione, ma come un processo: un movimento interno, quasi fisico, che ha a che fare con l’equilibrio, con il restare in piedi dentro il suono.
Fin dalle prime battute si percepisce come il trio lavori sulla relazione più che sulla forma: il sax di Alessio Dal Checco, la chitarra di Giulio Cuppari e la batteria di Giosuè Consiglio si muovono in uno spazio aperto, dove ogni gesto nasce dall’ascolto e si trasforma nel momento stesso in cui accade.
Più che costruire un discorso, Satori sembra affondare le radici in una necessità condivisa: suonare per orientarsi, per attraversare, per restare.
Il percorso già avviato con Here We Stand prosegue qui con una consapevolezza diversa: meno urgenza dichiarata, più radicamento. Come se quel “germoglio” di cui parlano trovasse ora una propria direzione, senza perdere il rischio dell’esposizione.
Il nome stesso della band, che rimanda all’ileopsoas, suggerisce una centralità del corpo che in Satori si traduce in musica viva, interconnessa, mai statica, dove ogni impulso sonoro sembra nascere da un equilibrio fisico prima ancora che musicale, come un respiro che tiene insieme movimento e ascolto.
L’interplay è il vero centro del disco. Non c’è mai una gerarchia definita, ma un continuo ridefinirsi dei ruoli, dove ogni gesto sonoro sembra nascere dall’ascolto reciproco. È qui che emerge quella dimensione “curativa” evocata dal gruppo: non come concetto astratto, ma come pratica condivisa.
Le dieci tracce seguono un percorso abbastanza chiaro, come un cammino che prende forma poco alla volta. Verde apre con un suono ampio e arioso, costruito su idee che si ripetono e si allargano nel tempo. Delicato resta su questa linea, lavorando su pochi elementi e su una tensione che cambia senza mai rompersi.
Con Chen il discorso si fa più irregolare, il dialogo tra gli strumenti diventa più spezzato, mentre Orme, con la batteria protagonista assoluta, è breve ma intensa, quasi un passaggio rapido che lascia il segno. Dinosauro cambia energia: qui il trio spinge di più, accumula, crea attriti e poi li lascia andare, mostrando un lato più nervoso.
Linda riporta il suono verso qualcosa di più melodico, ma senza diventare davvero disteso. In Angela il tempo si compatta: il sax resta essenziale, la chitarra porta avanti un riff continuo e la batteria tiene tutto insieme con precisione, creando una tensione costante. Piccola preghiera va ancora più in questa direzione, con un suono raccolto ma sempre in tensione.
Con Oggi torna il movimento, più irregolare e dinamico, con gli strumenti che si incrociano e si scontrano. La title track Satori chiude il disco senza chiuderlo davvero: resta in equilibrio, come un passaggio aperto, un respiro che continua anche dopo.

Il riferimento al “satori”, quell’illuminazione improvvisa che attraversa e sposta, non si impone mai come dichiarazione, ma affiora lentamente, come qualcosa che accade sotto la superficie. È una presenza discreta, che si insinua tra le pieghe del suono, nei vuoti, nelle attese, nei respiri condivisi. Più che essere raccontato, sembra essere cercato, sfiorato, a volte solo intravisto.
La musica degli Psoas non prova a spiegare, né a guidare. Rimane lì, esposta, vulnerabile, in un equilibrio sempre precario tra ciò che prende forma e ciò che ancora sfugge. È un movimento continuo, fatto di ascolto e di piccoli scarti, di intuizioni che nascono e subito si trasformano.
Ed è proprio in questa fragilità che il disco trova una sua verità: nel restare sospeso tra struttura e abbandono, tra gesto scritto e urgenza improvvisativa, tra radice e desiderio di andare oltre. Non c’è mai ostentazione, semmai un lasciar depositare, un costruire lentamente senso, senza forzature.
Un lavoro che non si concede subito, ma che chiede tempo, attenzione, presenza. E che, proprio per questo, finisce per restare.

A trio that digs into sound as an act of awareness
There is a moment, at the beginning of Satori, when the sound still seems to be searching for its breath. This is where Psoas begin: an open form of contemporary jazz, crossed by British-rock influences, that does not impose a direction but allows it to slowly emerge over time, through listening.
Released on April 15, 2026 for Aut Records, the album does not present itself as a statement, but as a process: an internal, almost physical movement concerned with balance, with standing upright inside sound itself.
From the very first notes, it becomes clear that the trio works through relationship rather than form: the saxophone of Alessio Dal Checco, the guitar of Giulio Cuppari, and the drums of Giosuè Consiglio move within an open space where every gesture is born from listening and transforms in the very moment it happens.
Rather than building a fixed narrative, Satori seems to be rooted in a shared necessity: playing to find orientation, to cross through, to remain.
The path already begun with Here We Stand continues here with a different awareness: less declared urgency, deeper grounding. As if the “sprout” they once spoke of is now finding its own direction, without losing the risk of exposure.
The band’s very name, which refers to the iliopsoas, suggests a centrality of the body that in Satori becomes living, interconnected, never static music, where every sonic impulse seems to arise from a physical balance before a musical one, like a breath holding together movement and listening.
Interplay is the true core of the record. There is never a fixed hierarchy, but a continuous redefinition of roles, where every sound gesture is born from mutual listening. This is where the group’s “healing” dimension emerges: not as an abstract concept, but as a shared practice.
The ten tracks follow a clear path, like a journey gradually taking shape. Verde opens with a wide, airy sound built on ideas that repeat and slowly expand over time. Delicato continues along this line, working with few elements and a tension that shifts without ever breaking.
With Chen, the dialogue becomes more irregular and fragmented, while Orme, with the drums in a leading role, is brief but intense, almost like a passing fragment that leaves a mark. Dinosauro changes energy: here the trio pushes further, accumulates density, creates friction and release, revealing a more restless side.
Linda brings the sound back toward something more melodic, though never fully relaxed. In Angela, time tightens: the sax remains essential, the guitar carries a continuous riff, and the drums hold everything together with precision, creating a constant tension. Piccola preghiera goes even further in this direction, with a more intimate sound that still remains tense.
With Oggi, movement returns—more irregular and dynamic—with instruments intersecting and colliding. The title track Satori closes the album without truly closing it: it remains in balance, like an open passage, a breath that continues even after the sound fades.
The reference to “satori”, that sudden awakening that passes through and transforms, never appears as a statement, but emerges slowly, like something happening beneath the surface. It is a discreet presence that slips into the folds of sound, into silences, expectations, shared breaths. Rather than being explained, it seems to be sought, touched, sometimes only glimpsed.
The music of Psoas does not try to explain or to guide. It remains exposed, vulnerable, in a constantly shifting balance between what takes shape and what still escapes. It is a continuous movement of listening and small deviations, of intuitions that arise and immediately transform.
And it is precisely in this fragility that the album finds its truth: in remaining suspended between structure and surrender, between written gesture and improvisational urgency, between roots and the desire to go further. There is never any display, only a slow sedimentation of meaning, without forcing.
A work that does not reveal itself immediately, but asks for time, attention, presence. And precisely for this reason, it stays with you.
