Un ritorno atteso trent’anni, tra ritualità, mito e nuove contaminazioni sonore
Ci sono ritorni che sorprendono come un vento improvviso: ti scuotono, ti portano altrove e ti lasciano con qualcosa di nuovo addosso. Così è il ritorno dei DePookan, formazione toscana nata nel 1992, che nel 1994 pubblicò il primo disco dal titolo De Pookan e che, dopo circa trent’anni di silenzio, dà ora alle stampe il suo secondo lavoro, Sang Et Cendre. Disponibile anche in CD dal 10 Ottobre grazie a RadiciMusic Records, questo album è un viaggio sonoro che attraversa tradizione e modernità, magia e ritualità, mondo celtico e sperimentazioni elettroniche.
Il disco si muove su traiettorie musicali che attraversano la world music più rituale e ancestrale, contaminata da echi celtici, suggestioni elettroniche, atmosfere dark e sperimentazioni rock, creando un paesaggio sonoro sospeso tra magia e realtà.
La formazione, guidata dalla voce di Susy Berni e dagli arrangiamenti del polistrumentista Nicola Cavina, dà forma a un’opera multiforme, intensa, sospesa tra ancestrale e contemporaneo. Voce, strumenti antichi ed elettronica si incontrano in un territorio sonoro che sembra al contempo arcaico e vicino, oscuro e luminoso, in un respiro che accompagna l’ascoltatore alle prime luci dell’alba come a quelle della sera.
La copertina, frutto della visione della stessa Susy Berni con la collaborazione con Aldo Coppola Neri della RadiciMusic Records, raffigura “l’uomo con il cappello”, simbolo della dualità umana: tra sangue e cenere, tra conflitto interiore e consapevolezza delle proprie emozioni.
L’apertura è affidata alla title-track Sang Et Cendre, che racconta l’inutilità della guerra e la dignità negata ai popoli, un brano sospeso tra riflessione e intensità emotiva.
Talyesin Merlino porta lo spettatore nel mondo magico di Merlino, con un dialogo ancestrale tra bianco e nero, uomo e mago, strega e spirito.
Eleen Aroon celebra la forza dell’acqua, luce e ombra, mentre Blood Red Shoes esplora l’oscurità dell’amore fino alla follia.
Schule Agra rende omaggio alla Terra come madre ancestrale, En Mes Pays racconta la nostalgia della propria terra e dei legami lontani, e Mag Mor Mag Mell chiama a raccolta le creature del mondo magico con una lingua ancestrale inventata da Susy.
Il tradizionale Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, con la partecipazione di Massimo Giuntini alle uilleann pipes, torna a parlare di guerra e violenza, prima di chiudere con Peace, strumentale e universale, dove le parole diventano semplicemente suono e senso di calma.
A completare il lavoro, una formazione solida e variegata: Susy Berni alla voce, Nicola Cavina tra chitarre, basso, mandola e campionamenti, Martina Weber alla viola da gamba, Nicola Esposto alle percussioni, Fabio Masetti alla batteria, Gian Piero Rezoagli ai cori.
Sang Et Cendre è un disco che va ascoltato con lentezza, lasciandosi trasportare dalla sua alchimia sonora, come se ogni brano fosse una finestra aperta su mondi sospesi tra mito e realtà, tra antico e contemporaneo. C’è una densità emotiva che non si limita a essere sentita: ti attraversa, ti avvolge, ti invita a fermarti e respirare. Ogni strato di suono, ogni respiro della voce di Susy Berni, ogni strumento antico o elettronico, sembra tessere una storia invisibile che pulsa dentro chi ascolta.
I DePookan tornano dopo trent’anni, ma non come chi ripete se stesso: lo fanno con un’opera che lascia un segno profondo, capace di restare nella memoria, come cenere che conserva il calore di un fuoco lontano ma ancora vivo. È un disco che parla di dualità, di luce e ombra, di guerra e pace, ma lo fa attraverso l’intimità della musica, creando un legame che va oltre le parole. Un ritorno che non si dimentica, un viaggio che accompagna e trasforma.

A return awaited for thirty years, between ritual, myth, and new sonic contaminations
There are comebacks that surprise you like a sudden wind: they shake you, carry you elsewhere, and leave you with something new clinging to your skin. Such is the return of DePookan, a Tuscan formation born in 1992, who released their self-titled debut in 1994 and, after nearly thirty years of silence, now present their second work, Sang Et Cendre. Available on CD from October 10 via RadiciMusic Records, this album is a sonic journey that moves through tradition and modernity, magic and ritual, the Celtic world and electronic experimentation.
The album moves along musical trajectories that cross the most ritual and ancestral world music, infused with Celtic echoes, electronic suggestions, dark atmospheres, and rock experimentation, creating a soundscape suspended between magic and reality.
The formation, led by the voice of Susy Berni and the arrangements of multi-instrumentalist Nicola Cavina, shapes a multifaceted and intense work, suspended between the ancestral and the contemporary. Voice, ancient instruments, and electronics meet in a sonic territory that feels both archaic and immediate, dark and luminous, in a breath that guides the listener from the first light of dawn to the evening.
The cover, the result of Susy Berni’s vision in collaboration with Aldo Coppola Neri of RadiciMusic Records, depicts the “man with the hat,” a symbol of human duality: between blood and ashes, between inner conflict and awareness of one’s emotions.
The album opens with the title track Sang Et Cendre, which reflects on the futility of war and the dignity denied to peoples—a song suspended between reflection and emotional intensity.
Talyesin Merlino takes the listener into Merlin’s magical world, with an ancestral dialogue between black and white, man and mage, witch and spirit.
Eleen Aroon celebrates the power of water, light, and shadow, while Blood Red Shoes explores the darkness of love to the point of madness.
Schule Agra pays homage to the Earth as an ancestral mother, En Mes Pays tells of nostalgia for one’s homeland and distant ties, and Mag Mor Mag Mell calls together the creatures of the magical world using an ancestral language invented by Susy.
The traditional Johnny I Hardly Knew Ye, featuring Massimo Giuntini on uilleann pipes, returns to speak of war and violence, before closing with Peace, instrumental and universal, where words become simply sound and a sense of calm.
Completing the work is a solid and varied lineup: Susy Berni on vocals, Nicola Cavina on guitars, bass, mandola, and sampling, Martina Weber on viola da gamba, Nicola Esposto on percussion, Fabio Masetti on drums, and Gian Piero Rezoagli on backing vocals.
Sang Et Cendre is an album to be listened to slowly, letting oneself be carried by its sonic alchemy, as if each track were an open window onto worlds suspended between myth and reality, between ancient and contemporary.
