Un ritorno al passato che profuma di nuova vita
Morgana 1994 / 2024 – An Unconventional Celebration non è solo un disco: è un ponte tra trent’anni di musica, amicizia e ricordi. Trent’anni fa, cinque ragazzi pieni di sogni componevano e suonavano i brani di Morgana, tra i locali della Bergamasca e l’entusiasmo di chi vuole conquistare il mondo con le note. Oggi, Alfio Costa e Stefano Piazzi – gli stessi musicisti dei Prowlers – riprendono in mano quei brani, reinventandoli con la consapevolezza di chi ha vissuto, sbagliato, imparato e continua ad amare la musica con passione.
Il disco viene completamente ripensato: stravolto, riarrangiato, maltrattato e coccolato, come amano dire gli autori. I testi rimangono quelli originali, in inglese “bergamascato”, mentre le voci diventano strumenti a sé stanti. Alfio Costa suona pianoforte, Roli Seaboard e voce, Stefano Piazzi chitarra elettrica e voce. Ad arricchire il suono ci sono Laura Mombrini, con cori e controcanti in Day After Day (Night After Night), Solitude e Morgana’s Shadows, e Simone Colzani, alle percussioni e batteria in Day After Day (Night After Night), I See Love In Your Eyes, Solitude e Morgana’s Shadows.
La copertina richiama quella del 1994, con cinque angeli femminili e i loro strumenti, ma con colori più tenui, a sottolineare la nuova prospettiva e la maturità acquisita. È interessante notare quanto, nel panorama del Progressive Rock italiano, un disco cantato da una donna rimanga una rarità: un dettaglio che evidenzia subito la personalità del gruppo.
Day After Day (Night After Night) apre il disco stabilendo subito le nuove regole del gioco: le tastiere e il pianoforte di Costa si intrecciano con la chitarra e le percussioni, creando una ballata riflessiva e sognante. La voce di Laura Mombrini si inserisce con naturalezza, aggiungendo un ulteriore livello di calore e profondità, mentre le armonie e gli intrecci strumentali avvolgono l’ascoltatore in un paesaggio sonoro delicato e avvolgente.
Segue I See Love In Your Eyes, dove il piano malinconico e la dinamica delle percussioni evocano un abbraccio sonoro intimo e sospeso. Le voci si sovrappongono e si rincorrono, creando una sensazione eterea e ipnotica che accompagna l’ascoltatore tra ricordo e presente.
In Lookin’ At The Sky le note di Costa e la chitarra si intrecciano con le percussioni creando un’atmosfera densa e avvolgente. È un brano che ti prende per mano, trascinandoti tra introspezione e meraviglia, tra ricordi sfumati e immagini che emergono appena sotto la superficie del tempo.
La nuova versione di Solitude scivola con naturalezza, ogni suono è curato nei minimi dettagli e gli arrangiamenti si intrecciano con eleganza. Il brano avvolge chi ascolta, alternando momenti di delicatezza e tensione, e regala un’intensa sensazione di profondità emotiva.
Morgana’s Shadows si muove con calma e naturalezza: tastiere, chitarra e percussioni si intrecciano in un’atmosfera sospesa, calda e avvolgente. Il brano racconta sogni, memoria e la capacità di reinventarsi senza perdere la propria identità musicale, lasciando chi ascolta con la sensazione di aver attraversato un piccolo frammento di vita condivisa.
A chiudere il viaggio, la bonus track Earth And Rain si immerge in una psichedelia leggera e nebbiosa, dove suoni e atmosfere dialogano tra memoria e presente. Il brano avvolge l’ascoltatore in un paesaggio sonoro sospeso, riflettendo la storia e l’evoluzione dei due musicisti nel tempo.

A Return to the Past That Smells of New Life
Morgana 1994 / 2024 – An Unconventional Celebration is not just an album: it is a bridge spanning thirty years of music, memories, and passion. Thirty years ago, five young musicians full of dreams composed and performed the tracks of Morgana, playing in venues across Bergamo with the excitement of those eager to conquer the world through music. Today, Alfio Costa and Stefano Piazzi—the same musicians from the Prowlers—return to those songs, reinventing them with the awareness of those who have lived, erred, learned, and continue to love music passionately.
The album is completely reimagined: transformed, rearranged, challenged, and cherished, as the artists like to say. The lyrics remain the originals, in Bergamasque-flavored English, while the voices are treated as instruments in their own right. Alfio Costa plays piano, Roli Seaboard, and sings, while Stefano Piazzi handles electric guitar and vocals. Enriching the sound are Laura Mombrini, providing harmonies and backing vocals on Day After Day (Night After Night), Solitude, and Morgana’s Shadows, and Simone Colzani on drums and percussion for Day After Day (Night After Night), I See Love In Your Eyes, Solitude, and Morgana’s Shadows.
The cover references the original 1994 artwork, with five female angels holding instruments, but with softer colors, highlighting the new perspective and the maturity gained. It is worth noting that in the Italian Progressive Rock scene, an album sung by a woman remains rare—an element that immediately emphasizes the group’s distinctive personality.
Day After Day (Night After Night) opens the album, setting the tone for this reinterpretation: Costa’s piano and keyboards intertwine with guitar and percussion, creating a reflective and dreamy ballad. Laura Mombrini’s voice blends naturally, adding warmth and depth, while instrumental layers envelop the listener in a delicate, immersive soundscape.
