Jazz rock tra improvvisazione e ricerca
Il progetto nasce attorno alla figura del chitarrista finlandese Raúl Mannola, musicista dalla lunga esperienza che in passato ha esplorato anche il mondo del flamenco acustico. Il nome Aurora Clara arriva dal titolo del suo album del 2002, realizzato con il Raúl Mannola Quintet, un lavoro che ha rappresentato una tappa importante del suo percorso artistico. La sua chitarra unisce velocità, precisione e fuoco, con una fluidità che può ricordare Allan Holdsworth, ma anche una dimensione più aperta e narrativa vicina a Steve Hackett reinterpretato attraverso il linguaggio jazz rock.
Accanto a lui troviamo Juan Carlos Aracil al flauto, capace di aggiungere una voce particolare al suono della band, con richiami alla tradizione fusion europea e alle atmosfere care a Jukka Tolonen, artista con cui Mannola ha anche collaborato in passato. Denis Bilanin alle tastiere arricchisce le composizioni con colori e atmosfere profonde, creando un dialogo continuo con la chitarra, mentre la sezione ritmica formata da Nill Oliveira al basso e Miguel Díaz alla batteria sostiene ogni brano con grande equilibrio, precisione e una straordinaria capacità di seguire le continue evoluzioni della musica.
L’album si apre con la title track Seven Hills, un brano che parte da una dimensione morbida e blueseggiante per crescere lentamente fino a diventare un’esplosione jazz rock. La chitarra e il flauto dialogano creando tensione e armonia, mentre le tastiere aggiungono profondità e colore. È un pezzo che sembra pensato per il palco, dove l’improvvisazione può trovare ancora più spazio.
Day Five mantiene quella sensazione di viaggio aperto, alternando passaggi più strutturati a momenti di pura libertà espressiva. Le tastiere contribuiscono a creare atmosfere calde e dinamiche, mentre Blues for L.C. mostra il lato più istintivo della band, una vera jam dove gli strumenti si rincorrono con entusiasmo.
Wise Raven rappresenta forse il momento più esplosivo del disco, un brano potente e trascinante che mette in evidenza la capacità del gruppo di costruire tensione e energia. Feel the Cool Wind continua il percorso tra fusion e rock progressivo con ottimi interventi di flauto e chitarra, mentre No Return chiude l’album con una breve parentesi acustica che cresce lentamente, lasciando intuire quanto spazio potrebbe avere la band in una dimensione live.

Seven Hills guarda alla grande storia del jazz rock, ma lo fa con una voce personale e contemporanea, trasformando influenze e suggestioni in un percorso ricco di energia, sensibilità e libertà espressiva. È un album dove tecnica e passione convivono naturalmente, dove ogni strumento trova il proprio spazio all’interno di un dialogo continuo tra forza rock, eleganza jazz e spirito improvvisativo.
Gli Aurora Clara riescono a creare una musica capace di emozionare anche senza il supporto delle parole, lasciando che siano melodie, ritmi e improvvisazioni a raccontare immagini e sensazioni. Seven Hills è un viaggio strumentale intenso e coinvolgente, una conferma della vitalità del jazz rock contemporaneo e della capacità di questa band di costruire paesaggi sonori ricchi di personalità.
Un disco imperdibile per chi ama la musica strumentale e, in particolare, il jazz rock, ma capace di coinvolgere anche gli appassionati di fusion e progressive rock.

Jazz rock between improvisation and exploration
The project is built around the figure of Finnish guitarist Raúl Mannola, a musician with a long career who has also explored the world of acoustic flamenco. The name Aurora Clara comes from the title of his 2002 album, released with the Raúl Mannola Quintet, a work that represented an important milestone in his artistic journey. His guitar combines speed, precision and fire, with a fluidity that can recall Allan Holdsworth, while also featuring a more open and narrative dimension close to Steve Hackett, reinterpreted through the language of jazz rock.
Alongside him, we find Juan Carlos Aracil on flute, adding a distinctive voice to the band’s sound, with echoes of European fusion traditions and the atmospheres associated with Jukka Tolonen, an artist with whom Mannola has also collaborated in the past. Denis Bilanin on keyboards enriches the compositions with deep colors and textures, creating a constant dialogue with the guitar, while the rhythm section formed by Nill Oliveira on bass and Miguel Díaz on drums supports every track with great balance, precision and an extraordinary ability to follow the music’s continuous evolution.

Wise Raven is perhaps the most explosive moment of the album, a powerful and compelling track that highlights the group’s ability to build tension and energy. Feel the Cool Wind continues the journey between fusion and progressive rock, featuring excellent flute and guitar interplay, while No Return closes the album with a short acoustic passage that gradually develops, suggesting how much space the band could explore in a live setting.
Seven Hills looks to the great history of jazz rock, but does so with a personal and contemporary voice, transforming influences and inspirations into a journey full of energy, sensitivity and expressive freedom. It is an album where technique and passion naturally coexist, where each instrument finds its own space within a continuous dialogue between rock power, jazz elegance and improvisational spirit.
