Oggi esiste un modo davvero comodo per andare alla ricerca di novità discografiche: Bandcamp. È diventato uno dei luoghi migliori dove scoprire artisti indipendenti, produzioni di qualità e progetti che, sempre più spesso, sfuggono ai canali più tradizionali. È proprio navigando tra le sue pagine che mi è capitato di imbattermi in Transmogrify del progetto Jane Getter Premonition, pubblicato da 7D Media, lavoro che sicuramente merita molta più attenzione di quella che può ricevere.
Il progetto Jane Getter Premonition ha alle spalle una storia iniziata nel 2015 con ON, seguito dal live ON Tour, dall'affascinante Anomalia e dal più recente Division World. Prima ancora, Jane Getter aveva già costruito una solida carriera solista con album come Jane, See Jane Run e Three, sviluppando negli anni una personale visione musicale nella quale progressive rock, jazz fusion e sensibilità cantautorale convivono con grande naturalezza.
Ammetto che il nome di Jane Getter non mi era particolarmente familiare. È stato l'ascolto del disco a incuriosirmi, ancora prima di andare a conoscere la sua storia artistica. Fin dai primi minuti ho avuto la sensazione di trovarmi davanti a un lavoro costruito con grande intelligenza, dove la tecnica non viene mai esibita come un semplice esercizio di stile, ma diventa uno strumento capace di dare forza alle idee e alle emozioni.
Solo dopo ho scoperto il cammino di questa straordinaria musicista: chitarrista, cantante e compositrice newyorkese, Jane Getter ha attraversato negli anni mondi musicali diversi, dal jazz-rock al progressive fino alla fusion, collaborando con artisti come Lenny White, Kenny Garrett, Jaimoe degli Allman Brothers, Michal Urbaniak e con la Saturday Night Live Band.
Un bagaglio di esperienze che si riflette pienamente in Transmogrify, un album dove ogni elemento trova il giusto equilibrio tra ricerca sonora, energia e profondità emotiva, confermando una visione musicale personale e sempre in continua evoluzione.
Il tema che attraversa l'intero album è quello della trasformazione. Non a caso il titolo Transmogrify richiama proprio l'idea del cambiamento. È un cambiamento che riguarda le persone, il mondo che ci circonda e la musica stessa, raccontato attraverso brani che alternano energia, riflessione e momenti di grande intensità emotiva.
L'apertura con Still Dreaming sorprende immediatamente. La splendida voce di Chanda Rule dona al brano una sensibilità particolare, mentre la band costruisce un'atmosfera sospesa tra jazz, soul e progressive, lasciando intuire fin dall'inizio la qualità dell'intero progetto.
La successiva Transmogrify, con i suoi oltre nove minuti, rappresenta il cuore del disco. È una composizione che evolve continuamente, passando con naturalezza da passaggi più delicati a sezioni di maggiore impatto. In Turned Around emerge il perfetto equilibrio tra la chitarra di Jane Getter e le tastiere di Adam Holzman. Il dialogo tra i due strumenti diventa uno degli elementi più affascinanti del disco, sostenuto da una sezione ritmica sempre precisa e mai invadente.
Con He's Gone Away (Won't Stay) il clima cambia ancora. L'atmosfera si fa più raccolta e la componente melodica prende il sopravvento, regalando uno dei momenti più intensi dell'album. È uno di quei brani che non cercano effetti spettacolari, ma conquistano lentamente grazie alla loro sincerità.
Blinded si muove su un andamento mid tempo, con un'atmosfera intensa ma mai sopra le righe. La chitarra di Jane Getter dialoga con le tastiere di Adam Holzman, mentre la sezione ritmica accompagna il brano con equilibrio e profondità, unendo ricerca sonora e immediatezza melodica.
Little Steps rappresenta un momento più intimo del disco, con la sola chitarra di Jane Getter a guidare l'ascoltatore attraverso una composizione delicata e ricca di sfumature. Un piccolo passo, come suggerisce il titolo, dove emozione e melodia prendono il posto del virtuosismo.
La chiusura è affidata a Just Run (Remastered), brano già pubblicato come singolo nel 2022 e qui riproposto in una nuova veste. Una composizione che riassume bene lo spirito del progetto Jane Getter Premonition, tra melodia, energia e quella continua ricerca sonora che caratterizza il percorso della band.

Anche il livello della produzione contribuisce al risultato finale. La registrazione di Anthony Ruotolo, il mix di Jun Murakawa e il mastering di Andy VanDette valorizzano ogni dettaglio, offrendo un suono pulito, dinamico e perfettamente bilanciato.
I Jane Getter Premonition possono contare su musicisti di grande esperienza: Jane Getter alla voce e chitarra, Adam Holzman alle tastiere, noto per le collaborazioni con Miles Davis e Steven Wilson, Paul Frazier al basso, già al fianco di David Byrne e Nile Rodgers, e Gene Lake alla batteria, con esperienze accanto a Marcus Miller e Nile Rodgers & Chic. A completare la formazione troviamo Russell Holzman alla batteria e gli ospiti Alex Skolnick (Testament, Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Mark Egan (Pat Metheny) e Chanda Rule (Kirk Lightsey). Eppure ciò che colpisce maggiormente non è il prestigio dei singoli curriculum, ma il modo in cui tutti mettono il proprio talento al servizio delle composizioni.
Transmogrify è uno di quei dischi che confermano quanto Bandcamp possa ancora essere una miniera di autentiche scoperte. Un album che unisce progressive rock e ricerca sonora con grande naturalezza, senza rincorrere al virtuosismo fine a sé stesso e senza cedere alle mode del momento. È musica che va approcciata con la giusta predisposizione, capace di regalare idee, emozioni e nuovi dettagli da scoprire a ogni ascolto.
Jane Getter e i suoi compagni riescono a costruire un viaggio musicale dove tecnica e sensibilità convivono in perfetto equilibrio, lasciando spazio alla melodia, alla riflessione e a quella capacità, sempre più rara, di raccontare qualcosa attraverso i suoni. Un incontro tra esperienza e desiderio di sperimentare, che trasforma Transmogrify in un album capace di crescere ascolto dopo ascolto, lasciando la sensazione di aver scoperto non solo un ottimo lavoro di progressive contemporaneo, ma anche una voce artistica personale e sincera.

Today there is a truly convenient way to search for new music releases: Bandcamp. It has become one of the best places to discover independent artists, quality productions and projects that increasingly escape the more traditional channels. It was while browsing through its pages that I came across Transmogrify by the Jane Getter Premonition project, released by 7D Media, an album that certainly deserves much more attention than it may receive.
The Jane Getter Premonition project has a history that began in 2015 with ON, followed by the live album ON Tour, the fascinating Anomalia and the more recent Division World. Before that, Jane Getter had already built a solid solo career with albums such as Jane, See Jane Run and Three, developing over the years a personal musical vision in which progressive rock, jazz fusion and singer-songwriter sensitivity naturally coexist.
I must admit that Jane Getter’s name was not particularly familiar to me. It was listening to the album that sparked my curiosity, even before I discovered more about her artistic background. From the very first minutes, I had the feeling of being in front of a work created with great intelligence, where technique is never displayed as a simple exercise in style, but becomes a tool capable of giving strength to ideas and emotions.
Only afterwards did I discover the journey of this remarkable musician: a New York-based guitarist, singer and composer, Jane Getter has explored different musical worlds throughout her career, from jazz-rock to progressive and fusion, collaborating with artists such as Lenny White, Kenny Garrett, Jaimoe of the Allman Brothers, Michal Urbaniak and the Saturday Night Live Band.
A wealth of experience that is fully reflected in Transmogrify, an album where every element finds the right balance between sonic exploration, energy and emotional depth, confirming a personal musical vision that is constantly evolving.
The theme running through the entire album is transformation. It is no coincidence that the title Transmogrify evokes the very idea of change. A change that concerns people, the world around us and music itself, expressed through songs that alternate energy, reflection and moments of great emotional intensity.
The opening track Still Dreaming immediately captures attention. Chanda Rule’s beautiful voice gives the song a unique sensitivity, while the band creates an atmosphere suspended between jazz, soul and progressive rock, revealing from the very beginning the quality of the entire project.
The title track Transmogrify, with its more than nine minutes, represents the heart of the album. It is a composition that constantly evolves, naturally moving from more delicate passages to sections of greater impact. Alex Skolnick’s electric guitar solo further enriches a track already full of ideas, without ever interrupting its narrative flow.
In Turned Around, the perfect balance between Jane Getter’s guitar and Adam Holzman’s keyboards emerges clearly. The dialogue between the two instruments becomes one of the most fascinating elements of the album, supported by a rhythm section that is always precise and never intrusive.
With He’s Gone Away (Won’t Stay), the atmosphere changes once again. The mood becomes more intimate and the melodic component takes centre stage, creating one of the album’s most intense moments. It is one of those songs that does not search for spectacular effects, but slowly wins the listener over through its sincerity.
Blinded moves at a mid-tempo pace, with an intense atmosphere that never becomes excessive. Jane Getter’s guitar dialogues with Adam Holzman’s keyboards, while the rhythm section supports the track with balance and depth, combining sonic research and melodic immediacy.
Little Steps represents a more intimate moment of the album, with Jane Getter’s guitar alone guiding the listener through a delicate composition full of nuances. A small step, as the title suggests, where emotion and melody take the place of pure virtuosity.
The album closes with Just Run (Remastered), a track previously released as a single in 2022 and presented here in a new version. A composition that perfectly summarizes the spirit of the Jane Getter Premonition project, between melody, energy and that constant sonic exploration that characterizes the band’s journey.
The production quality also contributes to the final result. The recording by Anthony Ruotolo, the mixing by Jun Murakawa and the mastering by Andy VanDette enhance every detail, delivering a clean, dynamic and perfectly balanced sound.

A meeting between experience and the desire to experiment, transforming Transmogrify into an album that grows with every listen, leaving the feeling of having discovered not only an excellent work of contemporary progressive rock, but also a personal and sincere artistic voice.
