Ci sono album che sembrano nascere già con una direzione precisa, come se ogni suono fosse stato pensato per condurre l’ascoltatore verso un luogo lontano. On the Other Side, il nuovo lavoro degli Space Traffic appartiene a questa categoria: un viaggio sonoro costruito come un movimento continuo, un percorso senza veri confini dove l’inizio e la fine diventano soltanto punti di passaggio.
Fin dalle prime note si percepisce l’idea di fondo della band valdostana: non proporre semplicemente una raccolta di brani, ma creare un’esperienza immersiva. Le nove composizioni inedite, precedute da un’introduzione, vivono come capitoli di un’unica narrazione, legati da un flusso che invita all’ascolto completo e alla ripetizione. On the Other Side sembra una porta aperta tra dimensione interiore e spazio cosmico, un movimento circolare nel quale ogni ritorno può rivelare nuovi dettagli.
Gli Space Traffic nascono dall’incontro tra Marco Pica (basso e voce), Fabio Baldassarri (chitarra) e Florian Bua (batteria), musicisti capaci di fondere energia rock, ricerca psichedelica e una forte sensibilità per le atmosfere dilatate. A completare la visione sonora del gruppo è Michele Picciurro, ingegnere del suono e presenza fondamentale nel progetto, tanto da essere considerato dalla band il “quarto Space”.
Proprio il lavoro nel suo Home Studio diventa uno degli elementi distintivi dell’album. La scelta di registrare tutto in presa diretta restituisce una sensazione di immediatezza rara: si percepiscono il dialogo tra gli strumenti, le aperture improvvisate, quella tensione creativa tipica delle sessioni live. Il suono rimane caldo e organico, capace di trasmettere non soltanto le composizioni, ma anche l’energia del momento in cui sono nate.
Anche la decisione di accordare e registrare l’intero disco a 432 Hz contribuisce a creare una particolare sensazione di equilibrio e fluidità. Al di là delle interpretazioni legate a questa frequenza, ciò che emerge è un ascolto avvolgente, dove ogni elemento sembra trovare il proprio spazio all’interno di un disegno più ampio.
Il linguaggio degli Space Traffic affonda le radici nel rock psichedelico e nello space rock, ma non si limita a riproporne gli stilemi. Le loro composizioni si muovono attraverso paesaggi sonori in continua trasformazione: riff ipnotici, aperture cinematiche, momenti sospesi e improvvise accelerazioni convivono in un equilibrio che mantiene sempre viva la tensione narrativa.
La dimensione cosmica evocata dal titolo e dall’immaginario della band non è soltanto un elemento estetico, ma diventa una metafora del viaggio stesso. Spazio esterno e spazio interiore si incontrano, trasformando la musica in un’esperienza di attraversamento, un invito a lasciarsi guidare dal flusso senza cercare necessariamente una destinazione.
Gli Space Traffic avevano già mostrato la propria identità con l’ottimo debutto Numbness del 2018, concept album introspettivo che aveva aperto il loro percorso, e con i singoli Jungle e Pictures del 2023, segnali di una continua evoluzione sonora. Con On the Other Side la band compie però un ulteriore passo avanti, trovando una dimensione più definita e personale.
Il viaggio di On the Other Side prende forma fin dall’apertura di Open the Doors, un’introduzione che non si limita a inaugurare l’album, ma sembra invitare l’ascoltatore a varcare una soglia verso una dimensione sonora in continua evoluzione. Da qui il percorso si sviluppa con naturalezza attraverso episodi come Pictures, dove il lato più evocativo della band trova piena espressione, Bright, che porta nuova energia senza spezzare il flusso narrativo, e A Deeper Dream, uno dei momenti più immersivi del disco, capace di ampliare ulteriormente la profondità del viaggio.
Il cammino si conclude con Back from the Other Side, una chiusura che non appare come un punto d'arrivo definitivo, ma come il completamento di un cerchio, riportando idealmente l'ascoltatore al punto di partenza con uno sguardo diverso. È proprio questa continuità a rappresentare uno degli aspetti più riusciti dell'album: ogni brano possiede una propria identità, ma acquista ancora più significato all'interno della visione complessiva immaginata dagli Space Traffic.
Abbandonandosi all’ascolto nella sua interezza, il disco diventa un vero ambiente sonoro nel quale immergersi, un luogo sospeso dove il tempo sembra rallentare e dove ogni passaggio conduce naturalmente verso il successivo. Le atmosfere psichedeliche, le aperture spaziali e l’energia della band si fondono in un movimento continuo che accompagna l’ascoltatore in un viaggio senza confini definiti.
Gli Space Traffic trasformano il rock in movimento, il suono in paesaggio e l’energia in racconto. On the Other Side non è soltanto un viaggio verso un luogo lontano, ma un percorso interiore nel quale ogni attraversamento lascia una traccia, ogni ritorno porta con sé una nuova prospettiva. È un cerchio aperto, un album che continua a svelare dettagli e sensazioni diverse, lasciando che sia il tempo dell’ascolto a rivelarne lentamente tutta la profondità.

There are albums that seem to be born with a clear direction from the very beginning, as if every sound had been conceived to guide the listener towards a distant place. On the Other Side, the new release by Space Traffic, belongs to this category: a sonic journey built as a continuous movement, a path without real boundaries where beginning and ending become nothing more than points of passage.
From the very first notes, the band’s underlying idea becomes clear: Space Traffic are not simply presenting a collection of songs, but creating an immersive experience. The nine original compositions, preceded by an introduction, unfold like chapters of a single narrative, connected by a flow that invites complete listening and repeated journeys. On the Other Side feels like an open door between the inner dimension and cosmic space, a circular movement where every return can reveal new details.
Space Traffic was born from the meeting of Marco Pica (bass and vocals), Fabio Baldassarri (guitar) and Florian Bua (drums), three musicians capable of blending rock energy, psychedelic exploration and a strong sensitivity for expanded, atmospheric soundscapes. Completing the band’s sonic vision is Michele Picciurro, sound engineer and a fundamental presence within the project, so much so that the band considers him the “fourth Space”.
His work at his Home Studio is one of the album’s defining elements. The choice to record everything live gives the music a rare sense of immediacy: the dialogue between instruments, the spontaneous openings and that creative tension typical of live sessions remain clearly perceptible. The sound is warm and organic, able to convey not only the compositions themselves, but also the energy of the moment in which they were created.
The decision to tune and record the entire album at 432 Hz also contributes to a particular feeling of balance and fluidity. Beyond the different interpretations associated with this frequency, what emerges is an enveloping listening experience, where every element seems to find its own place within a broader sonic vision.
Space Traffic’s musical language has its roots in psychedelic rock and space rock, but it does not simply reproduce the traditional elements of these genres. Their compositions move through constantly evolving soundscapes: hypnotic riffs, cinematic openings, suspended moments and sudden bursts of energy coexist in a balance that keeps the narrative tension alive.
The cosmic dimension suggested by the title and by the band’s imagery is not merely an aesthetic choice, but becomes a metaphor for the journey itself. Outer space and inner space meet, transforming music into a passage of discovery, an invitation to follow the flow without necessarily searching for a final destination.
Space Traffic had already revealed their identity with the excellent debut album Numbness (2018), an introspective concept album that marked the beginning of their journey, and with the 2023 singles Jungle and Pictures, signs of a constant evolution in their sound. With On the Other Side, however, the band takes another important step forward, reaching a more defined and personal dimension.
The journey of On the Other Side takes shape from the opening track “Open the Doors”, an introduction that does not simply begin the album, but seems to invite the listener to cross a threshold into a constantly evolving sonic dimension. From there, the path naturally unfolds through tracks such as “Pictures”, where the band’s most evocative side finds full expression, “Bright”, which brings new energy without breaking the narrative flow, and “A Deeper Dream”, one of the album’s most immersive moments, capable of expanding the depth of the entire journey.
The path concludes with “Back from the Other Side”, a closing track that does not feel like a definitive destination, but rather the completion of a circle, ideally bringing the listener back to the starting point with a different perspective. This continuity is one of the album’s greatest strengths: each song has its own identity, yet gains even more meaning within the overall vision created by Space Traffic.
When experienced as a whole, the album becomes a true sonic environment to immerse oneself in, a suspended place where time seems to slow down and every transition naturally leads to the next. The psychedelic atmospheres, cosmic openings and the band’s energy merge into a continuous movement that guides the listener through a journey without clearly defined boundaries.
Space Traffic transform rock into movement, sound into landscape and energy into storytelling. On the Other Side is not simply a journey towards a distant place, but an inner path where every crossing leaves a mark and every return brings a new perspective. It is an open circle, an album that continues to reveal new details and sensations, allowing time and repeated listening to slowly unveil its full depth.
