Un ritorno potente, melodico e profondamente rock
Con II, gli Iconic mettono da parte ogni possibile esitazione e tornano con un album che suona immediatamente più deciso, compatto e personale. Il secondo capitolo della band, pubblicato da Frontiers Music srl, parte dalle fondamenta del debutto ma le amplia con maggiore energia, chitarre più incisive e una scrittura orientata alla forza della canzone. È come se il progetto avesse finalmente trovato il proprio equilibrio, trasformando l'incontro tra grandi musicisti in una vera identità di gruppo.
Questo supergruppo nasce dall'incontro di cinque musicisti con esperienze importanti nella storia dell'hard rock: Nathan James alla voce (Inglorious, oltre alla sua esperienza con Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Michael Sweet alle chitarre (Stryper), Joel Hoekstra alle chitarre (Whitesnake, Night Ranger), Marco Mendoza al basso (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, The Dead Daisies) e Tommy Aldridge alla batteria (Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne). Un insieme di percorsi differenti che trova negli Iconic un punto d'incontro naturale, trasformando talento, esperienza e personalità in un hard rock potente, melodico e profondamente legato alla grande tradizione del genere.
Fin dai primi secondi di Cry No More si capisce che questa volta la band voglia andare dritto al cuore del rock. Il brano apre l'album con riff incisivi, batteria esplosiva e un ritornello costruito per rimanere nella memoria. È un inizio energico, quasi una dichiarazione d'intenti: qui non c'è spazio per esitazioni.
A rendere particolarmente interessante il disco è soprattutto il dialogo tra Joel Hoekstra e Michael Sweet. Le loro chitarre non sono semplicemente protagoniste, ma diventano due voci che si cercano, si rincorrono e si completano attraverso riff potenti, melodie luminose e assoli dal grande impatto. La tecnica c'è, naturalmente, ma non viene mai utilizzata come semplice esercizio di stile: al centro rimane sempre la canzone.
E poi c'è Nathan James, la voce che dà un volto emotivo all'intero progetto. Potente, graffiante quando serve, ma capace anche di mostrare una notevole sensibilità melodica, James trova in II uno spazio ideale per esprimere tutta la propria personalità. La sua interpretazione diventa particolarmente intensa nei momenti più riflessivi del disco.
Il disco prosegue con proseguono con All I Want, mantenendo alta la tensione attraverso un hard rock diretto e immediato, mentre Open My Eyes aggiunge nuove sfumature alla dinamica dell'album, mettendo ancora una volta in primo piano l'intreccio tra le chitarre di Michael Sweet e Joel Hoekstra e la voce potente di Nathan James.
Con Tears Keep On Falling arriva uno dei passaggi più emozionanti del disco. La band rallenta il passo e lascia maggiore spazio alla melodia, costruendo una power ballad intensa, nella quale la voce di James acquista particolare profondità e le chitarre contribuiscono a creare un'atmosfera più raccolta e suggestiva.
Take Me To The Place riporta progressivamente il disco verso sonorità più energiche, mentre S.O.S. accentua la componente più muscolare del sound, sostenuta dal basso di Marco Mendoza e dalla batteria possente di Tommy Aldridge. La sezione ritmica rappresenta infatti uno degli elementi fondamentali dell'album: basso e batteria costruiscono una base solida e trascinante sulla quale le due chitarre possono muoversi con grande libertà.
La seconda parte del disco si apre con Nothing Left For Me, dove emerge nuovamente il lato melodico degli Iconic, prima di arrivare a Far Away, brano che amplia ulteriormente la tavolozza espressiva del gruppo. Con Valley Of Lost Souls il tono diventa ancora più intenso e suggestivo, mentre Written In The Stars riporta in primo piano quella combinazione di melodia e potenza che rappresenta uno dei tratti distintivi del progetto.
A chiudere il viaggio è Heart Of Stone, un finale che raccoglie idealmente tutti gli elementi incontrati lungo il percorso: chitarre incisive, la melodia sempre al centro, una sezione ritmica versatile e una voce capace di passare dalla forza all'espressività. Un modo efficace per concludere un album nel quale gli Iconic mostrano di conoscere perfettamente la materia dell'hard rock, reinterpretandola attraverso la personalità dei cinque musicisti.

Alla fine di II rimane soprattutto una sensazione: quella di aver ascoltato musicisti che hanno ancora qualcosa da dire e, soprattutto, qualcosa da farci sentire. Le chitarre di Michael Sweet e Joel Hoekstra, il ritmo di Marco Mendoza e Tommy Aldridge e la voce di Nathan James si fondono in un hard rock potente, diretto e profondamente umano.
Quando le ultime note di Heart Of Stone si spengono, resta la sensazione che il grande hard rock sappia ancora parlare con immediatezza, passione e sincerità. II è fatto di energia e melodia, di forza e sentimento, ma soprattutto di musicisti che hanno ancora una storia da raccontare.
Ed è proprio questo a rendere il ritorno degli Iconic così interessante: non la semplice somma dei prestigiosi percorsi dei suoi protagonisti, ma la capacità di trasformare quelle esperienze in qualcosa di nuovo, in una storia fatta di chitarre, voce, ritmo e tanta voglia di suonare rock. Perché, alla fine, è questo che chiediamo alla musica: arrivare da qualche parte dentro di noi e lasciarci qualcosa.

With II, Iconic put any hesitation behind them and return with an album that immediately sounds more focused, cohesive and personal. It feels as though the project has finally found its balance, transforming the meeting of five great musicians into a genuine band identity.
This supergroup brings together five musicians with important connections to the history of hard rock: Nathan James on vocals (Inglorious, as well as his experience with Trans-Siberian Orchestra), Michael Sweet on guitars (Stryper), Joel Hoekstra on guitars (Whitesnake, Night Ranger), Marco Mendoza on bass (Thin Lizzy, Whitesnake, The Dead Daisies) and Tommy Aldridge on drums (Whitesnake, Ozzy Osbourne). From the very first seconds of Cry No More, it is clear that this time the band wants to go straight to the heart of rock. The song opens the album with sharp riffs, explosive drums and a chorus designed to stay in the memory. It is an energetic beginning, almost a declaration of intent: there is no room for hesitation here.
What makes the album particularly interesting is the dialogue between Joel Hoekstra and Michael Sweet. Their guitars are not simply the protagonists; they become two voices that seek each other out, chase one another and complement each other through powerful riffs, bright melodies and hard-hitting solos. The technique is naturally there, but it never becomes an exercise in showing off: the song always remains at the centre.
And then there is Nathan James, the voice that gives the entire project its emotional identity. Powerful and gritty when needed, yet also capable of showing considerable melodic sensitivity, James finds in II the ideal space to express his personality. His performance becomes particularly intense during the album's more reflective moments.
The album continues with All I Want, keeping the tension high through direct and immediate hard rock, while Open My Eyes adds new shades to the album's dynamics, once again bringing the interplay between Michael Sweet and Joel Hoekstra's guitars and Nathan James' powerful vocals to the forefront.
With Tears Keep On Falling comes one of the album's most emotional moments. The band slows the pace and gives greater space to melody, creating an intense power ballad in which James' voice takes on particular depth, while the guitars help create a more intimate and evocative atmosphere.
Take Me To The Place gradually brings the album back towards more energetic territory, while S.O.S. emphasizes the more muscular side of the sound, driven by Marco Mendoza's bass and Tommy Aldridge's powerful drumming. The rhythm section is indeed one of the album's essential elements: bass and drums create a solid, driving foundation over which the two guitars can move with great freedom.
